Spider Vein Treatments

Sclerotherapy is often used to treat visible spider veins, those small red and purple vessels and near the surface of the skin. A painless medication is injected into the veins, causing them to shrink, occlude and eventually gradually disappear. Although two to five treatments are often needed, the results are long-lasting. Following your treatment compression stockings are worn for one week. We also recommend patients refrain from tanning following treatments to prevent darkening of the veins. It is important to make sure your underlying vein system is healthy before treating the smaller vein clusters.
