A leg ulcer is a long-lasting (chronic) wound on the leg or foot that takes longer than six weeks to heal.
Leg ulcers can be caused by:
- Poor circulation, often caused by arteriosclerosis
- Venous insufficiency
- Renal (kidney) Failure
- Hypertension (treated or untreated)
- Lymphedema (a buildup of fluid that causes swelling in the legs or feet)
- History of smoking
